An appealing mix of traditional and contemporary style, Casa Verde has been beautifully but simply decorated and furnished, with locally sourced materials used wherever possible. The cosy open-plan kitchen and sitting room has terracotta-tiled floors and old beams with a large traditional stone fireplace and wood-burning stove. There is a comfortable linen-covered sofa with comfy cushions, antique furniture, rugs and plenty of candles to cast a warm glow on cooler evenings when the stove is lit. The well-equipped kitchen features hand-made, marble-topped units with plenty of preparation space, and a selection of cookery books for additional inspiration in rustling up a delicious Italian lunch or supper. There is a fan oven and gas hob, dishwasher, good-size fridge/freezer, washing machine, coffee machine, toaster and milk frother. Upstairs are two attractively furnished, double bedrooms with pale wooden floors and beams.  There is a wardrobe in one room and a chest-of-drawers and extra shelf space in the other. The airy, contemporary-style bathroom features open-ended shower finished in beautiful, traditional Tuscan tiles. There is also an intriguing fresco in an alcove downstairs – a convincing copy of one of Sansepolcro-born Renaissance artist, Piero della Francesca’s most well-known works of art, ‘The Resurrection of Christ.’ But no one seems to know who put it here at Casa Verde!

The House

When I first came across Casa Verde in 2011, the house and garden had been neglected for many years and were in need of much loving attention and careful restoration. Despite its rather sad, ramshackle appearance, it was love at first sight and since then, my aim has been to gently rejuvenate Casa Verde by installing modern creature comforts while at the same time, preserving its unique charm and character.
