The village of Lippiano, a 5-minute drive from the house, has a small bar/café and post office which is open on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Monterchi, a few minutes further on, will be your nearest port of call for the small supermarket, Punto (open until 8pm in the evenings and on Sunday mornings) which sells all essentials and more, including wonderful red meat and serves a very good morning coffee – the owners and staff are charming.
You will also find a Bancomat in Monterchi, a pharmacy, three cafe/bars and three super local restaurants. ‘Pieve Vecchia’ has a wonderful terrace for outside dining in the summer while ‘Una Terazza in Toscana’ and ‘Al Trovato’ are both located in Monterchi’s old town. All three serve excellent local food and good wines. La Papaia sells all the fresh fruit and vegetables you could want and a weekly market is held in the village every Sunday morning. To really stock up, visit the historic towns of Sansepolcro or Città di Castello, both of which are equidistant from Casa Verde but in opposite directions, have large supermarkets, weekly markets and a good selection of shops.
